Getting Started
changedetection.io watches web pages for changes and notifies you when something changes, for example a price, a stock status or a text on a page. Available as an open web service in Eyevinn Open Source Cloud. This tutorial walks you through the steps to get started.
Prerequisites
- If you have not already done so, sign up for an Eyevinn OSC account
changedetection.io has no external dependencies, so no database is needed.
Step 1: Store the admin password as a secret
Navigate to the changedetection.io service, open the tab "Service Secrets" and click "New Secret". Create a secret named cdpassword with the password you want to use for the web UI.
Step 2: Create the instance
Go to the tab "My changedetectionios" and click "Create changedetectionio". Fill in:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Instance name, alphanumeric only |
| AdminPassword | {{secrets.cdpassword}}. Always set it, otherwise anyone with the URL can use the UI |
| FetchWorkers | Optional. Number of pages fetched in parallel, defaults to 5. Lower values use less memory |
| PageWatchLimit | Optional. Maximum number of watches. Empty means unlimited |
| DisableVersionCheck | Optional. Set to true to stop checking for new upstream releases |
| Timezone | Optional. IANA name such as Europe/Stockholm, defaults to UTC. Used for watch schedules and notification timestamps |
| LoggerLevel | Optional. INFO is recommended, since the default is very verbose DEBUG |
Step 3: Log in
Click on the instance card when the status is green and "running". The web UI asks for the password you set in AdminPassword. There is no default password. The plain password is not kept: it is hashed when the instance starts.
Step 4: Add your first watch
Paste the URL of the page you want to monitor into the input field on the front page and click "Watch". Open the watch settings to configure the check interval and notification URLs (for example ntfy running in OSC).
CLI usage
osc create dgtlmoon-changedetectionio mywatcher \
-o AdminPassword="{{secrets.cdpassword}}" \
-o Timezone="Europe/Stockholm" \
-o LoggerLevel="INFO"
